
Are you into STEM? Do you like art and writing? Would you like to learn new skills? Then join us this fall!
Octavia Project Afterschool is a FREE workshop series based in Brooklyn for young women and trans, nonbinary, and/or gender expansive youth in grades 7-9. Together we will create, explore, build, and have FUN in weekly workshops that combine science with art and writing. This fall, we’ll be exploring conservation and urban ecology with hands-on projects in the Gowanus community.
Octavia Project Afterschool will be held at Gowanus Canal Conservancy in Brooklyn. It will run Thursdays, 3:30-5:30pm, from Oct. 22 – Dec. 10, 2026, with arrival from 3:15-3:30pm. Our afterschool workshop series is 100% free and includes healthy snacks.
An Afterschool participant will finish the program with:
- Hands-on experience in conservation and urban ecology.
- Strengthened skills and confidence in STEM, art, and writing.
- A community of creative peers who have your back!
Octavia Project participants are:
- Young women and trans, nonbinary, and gender expansive youth who are in grades 7-9.
- Able to travel to Gowanus, Brooklyn afterschool on a weekly basis.
- Available to attend all seven weeks of the program.
- Into art, writing, science, nature, urban planning—or interested in learning more about these topics!
