Earlier this year, we announced that we’d be transitioning from a solo Executive Director model to a shared leadership structure, with Co-Directors. We’re thrilled to share that after an extensive search process, we have hired ray ferreira (she/her) into the new Co-Director role!

ray’s name is likely familiar to many of you. ray has been involved with the Octavia Project since our second year, first as a teacher, then Program Director, and finally Advisory Board member. She has been integral to shaping our programs, pedagogy, and community in so many ways, it feels fitting to have her now step into this new role. ray brings with her many years of experience managing education programs at the Brooklyn Museum and a deep connection to the NYC arts sector.

“I’m excited to be championing the Octavia Project in this new capacity. Over the last nine years, I’ve had the privilege of supporting the wonderful and necessary work of this organization as a staff member, consultant, and advisory board member. I’m eager to bring my experiences leading programming at the Brooklyn Museum to uplift the young worldbuilders we serve and foster deeper connections with the rich community of arts, literary, and science professionals that supports participants’ skill development, community building, and dreaming.” —ray ferreira, Octavia Project Co-Director

Former Executive Director Meghan McNamara will be staying on as ray’s Co-Director. This increased staff capacity will allow us to expand our programs and finally add after-school programming to our annual calendar. “I’m excited to transition to a shared leadership structure, which feels aligned with our work and community-centered approach. I’m also delighted to have the opportunity to learn from and work with ray in this deeper capacity. I can’t wait to see all the ways she grows and develops our organization,” Meghan shared.

We’re currently in the thick of summer preparations, and we’ll be sharing more about this summer’s plans soon. In the meantime, thank you so much for your ongoing support, and please join us in giving a big warm welcome to ray!
