It’s full STEAM ahead for our summer of creative learning! Our Camp for grades 6–8 wrapped up last week, while our Institute for ages 14–19 continues through August 14.
During the last two weeks of Camp, our guest teachers in architecture and urban planning helped students explore the everyday magic found in their communities with generative mapping exercises, model building, and discussions about how to foster diverse and welcoming public spaces.
Our Campers also took a trip to Brooklyn Bridge Park, learned about sustainable textile dyeing techniques in the Pratt Dye Garden, and coded their own narrative games on Twine!

At the Institute, students are wielding the power of speculative fiction to engage with mythic stories, branching narratives, and parallel worlds. Together, they’re also reading and discussing our Book Club pick, Ghost Roast, written by Shawnelle and Shawneé Gibbs and illustrated by Emily Cannon. Thank you to HarperCollins for donating copies of the book to all of our Institute participants!

We’ve got much more coming up at the Institute, including a field trip to the Billion Oyster Project and a workshop with acclaimed author N. K. Jemisin. Keep an eye on our socials for the latest from our programs, and don’t forget to RSVP to our Summer Showcase on August 14 at CARA if you’re in or around NYC!
